These names of him must give you an insight of whom he is.

The Bible tells us that he was once an anointed cherub:

“Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more”(Eze.28:13-19).

“Your pride and your music have ended here in the world of the dead. Worms are your blanket, maggots are your bed.”. You, the bright morning star, have fallen from the sky!
You brought down other nations; now you are brought down.You said to yourself, “I'll climb to heaven and place my throne above the highest stars. I'll sit there with the gods
far away in the north. 'll be above the clouds, just like God Most High.” But now you are deep in the world of the dead. (”Isaiah 14:10-15)

We learn that he once was a mighty cherub who was covered with the most precious stones. He was very handsome and very intelligent. I do believe that he still can be. People that have had visitations from Satan, have testified that he appears ‘as an angel of light’ ( II Cor. 11:14). Apparently he was the cherub appointed for the music for both Ezekiel and Isaiah’s description of him, we see many music instruments.

His fall from heaven was mainly due to pride. He assumed that he could overthrow God. . "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God" (Job 38:7). We also know that when he was expelled from heaven he fell with two thirds of his angels. Those angels are rebelling angels, just as Satan is.

Satan is very evil and his power is not to be taken lightly. That would be utterly foolish to do. We all know that Jesus is the victor and that He defeated Satan at Calvary (Col. 2:15), and we all know that in the name of Jesus the devil and his evil minions need to go away from you, but that does not mean that you can take up a fight with Satan at any given time. Many a Christian gets himself pretty badly messed up because he has entered into a battle without the consent of God. They think they can buy all kinds of occult books because they are protected and therefore nothing can happen to them. Well let me tell you that if you think this way you think wrong! You can buy occult books only and I say ONLY when God explicitly tells you to do so. If you buy them outside of His will, you are entering Satan's territory and thus stepping out of God's protection. Many naive Christians have fallen into this trap, finding themselves within Satan's paws, and once he has you in his power, he will not so easily let go of you. That is why you need to be utterly careful with these things and not go into war without God's explicit consent.

I myself have heard many a minister here in the Netherlands preach that Satan is just synonymous of evil that is within you. How very deceived these people are. Satan is alive and very real friends. He entices you to do evil but he is not just some metaphor, he is very much alive and doing all he can to get you into hell. He hates you because you love Jesus. He hates Jesus because he thinks that he is entitled to this world. You must know that once you fall into his snares you will have a huge fight to get out of them. I have counseled many people who have participated in spiritism, black magic and ouija board who thought of these activities very lightly, only to find themselves with poltergeists in the home, demon possessed and some even have had a visitation of Satan which scarred them terribly. Dabbing into the occult, into Satan's territory is not to be taken lightly. It carries serious consequences.

You need to understand that spiritual warfare is nothing else than warring against unseen evil forces. You may not see them, nevertheless they are alive and very real. If you go unprepared into a war you will get defeated, the same goes for spiritual warfare. If you are going to battle evil forces you better start knowing the Bible and all it says about God and his power and the power of evil. You need to know all you can about the forces that you are up against, only in this way you may be prepared. You need to have a close walk with God and be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to listen to His voice whenever He speaks to you. Especially in spiritual warfare this is very important, your very own life may depend on it. I know of people who have entered spiritual warfare quoting Revelation 20, the chapter that speaks about the final destination of Satan, thinking that they had the right and the power to expel demons, only to find themselves heavily beaten and afflicted by them. The very own Bible gives us a good example of this in Acts 19:15: "And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?"

You must understand that not everybody is called to fight the demonic in high degrees. God is the one that decides the degree of your battle. Some of us have to fight enormous fights, others have to fight less. There is a place of ministry for every one of us and we better stay within the confinements of what God has called us to do. Being curious about the occult or thinking that you need to know all there is about Satan and his kingdom without God telling you so is foolish. I cannot emphasize it enough. Nowadays our Society is filled up with veiled knowledge which often enough has its origin in Satanism. It has been veiled in such a way that it sounds very appealing, even to us Christians. Many of us fall into that trap because we do not know our Bibles. A good example is the New Age. This form of living has its roots in the occult and many people are being led astray and into hell because of it. Oh yes, New Age talks about a god, a force which is not the God of Christianity. Do not fall into this trap. Satan is also called the force, just listen to Rock Music and you will see what I mean. New Agers talk about peace and a light and guides which are nothing more than demon spirits that guide these people These people will not go into heaven because they do not accept the God of the Bible.

You need to know the Bible, only so will you not be led astray. Take a good look at the definitions of Satan that the Bible gives us, we see that nothing good comes from him. Yet many people are being led astray by him and that is very sad. Satan is our adversary and the advice that Peter gave us in the Bible I give to you: " Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8) .
