“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”(Ps 34:1)

Praise not only is a powerful weapon against the enemy, it is also a powerful weapon against depression, feeling low and even feeling unhappy. We are called to praise and worship God at all times:

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”(Ps 34:1)

Praise is thanking God with a joyful heart that He has heard our prayers, it is the act of worshipping God for all He is and for whom He is. To praise God brings God on the scene.

“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel”(Ps 22:3). You see, whenever you want to become close to God in prayer, you need to first start praising Him. In this way He will come into your presence. You will feel His presence and believe me, once you have been in His presence, you want to stay in it forever!

You must however, praise God with His word: “In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word”. (Ps 56:10). Now you may ask yourself why this is so. Well for God it is important that we praise Him in His words because in this way we show Him that we are studying and acquainted with His word. The more we study His word the more we will learn about God and the more we learn about God the closer we will bet to Him. That is why God always honors your praises if you praise Him with His word.

When you feel low or you are facing a really difficult time in your life and you start to praise God, you will see the clouds lift up from you and your situation in no time. It is in these times that praising God is the most's difficult for our flesh will strive and fight against it in a most vicious way. The reward however, if you succeed is worth the struggle. Psalm 56 gives us a good example of this. David was persecuted by his enemies and he was going through a difficult time because of it. But, he trusted in God and no matter how awful and desperate his circumstances looked, he did praise God and soon found himself in better circumstances. You see, when times get rough in life, which undoubtedly will, and instead of moaning and groaning and blaming God you praise Him, you will find yourself out of that situation in no time. Furthermore, you will be able to endure the circumstances more easily because through your praises God will work and help you out. Try it and you will see what I mean.

Another advantage that praise has for us is in spiritual warfare. I, being Dutch have of course read the books of Corry ten Boom. I love her Christianity and her teachings. One of her teachings was to praise whenever you are battling demons. Demons hate praise and will flee from your sight if you do. That is why playing praise music in the house will maintain it clean (up to a certain degree). Everything that exalts God, demons will hate. They cannot stand that. Therefore if you are facing a difficult situation, or even when you are facing a situation where demons are enticing you to sin, start to praise God and see how easy the situation will turn into your favor. It never ceases to amaze me, friends. It works every time.

To praise God will help you with your relationship with God. God does not need your praises. You are the one that needs them, for they will bring you close to God. To praise God will bring you joy (Ps 9:2, Ps 42:4), it will reveal you His power (Ps.21:13), it will cure your depression (Ps. 42:11, Ps. 43:5), it will lead you to salvation (Ps. 50:23) and much much more. In short let us say that to praise God is indispensable for us, especially if we seek His closeness.

In conclusion, let me hearken unto the words of God that he spoke through David for those are wise: “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Ps. 50:23)
