Please be aware that the list of occult objects and practices is only given for you to know what is occult and what is not. Many a Christian has no idea that some practices are very occult. The purpose of such a list is to give you a fair idea of what is occult. Our aim is for you is to instruct you and help you deliver yourself fromany involvement within the occult.
Abacomancy: is derived from the Greek amathos, is fortune telling through observations of omens in patterns of dust or sand.
Aeromancy: fortune telling by reading atmospheric conditions such as winds, thunder and lightning etc.Also known as Chaomancy in the Hindu religion.
Accupressure: also known as Shiatsu massage. It is a massage where the fingertips are used to press on knees and elbows.
Acupuncture: Oriental method of healing using needles. It is said that it can heal asthma, depression, allergies, diarrhea, bronchitis, all sorts of gynecology problems, headaches such as migraine, drug abuse etc.
Aisa: winti god of earth
Amulet: or talisman. Its Greek word is ‘talein’ which means initiate into the mysteries.Genrally used as good luck charms. Amulets can be coins, rings, pendants, drawings, stones etc.
Ankh: Egyptian hieroglyphic character which means life, but some say it represents womb or semen for both are givers of life. It often appears at the fingertips of a god or goddess in images that represent deities of the afterlife. It is depicted as a cross with a handle.
Apparitions of the dead: also known as ghosts, usually the apparitions of souls of dead loved ones.
Apporte: movement of objects by supernatural means through the material world, it is also the spontaneous apparition of objects that where not there.

Automatic writing: a person in a state of trance writes things down. Message is often signed by another person (demon who gives the message). Noteworthy to point out here is that often messages only contain words that make sense only to the individual concerned.
Astro Projection: means a person traveling outside his/her own physical body, traveling in a different state of consciousness. Widely used by witches etc. Also very popular in Hollywood.
Astrology: belief in which the position of celestial bodies is held to be useful in understanding, handling and interpreting knowledge about people here on earth. Usually the understanding is done through study of the constellations and planets and their positions on special occasions of a person’s life such as birth, marriage etc.
Astro magic: the practice of which the magician steps out of his body through meditation in order to travel into the spirit world.
Augury: use of omens or potents to foretell the future. Old Roman practice in which the augur or haruspex foretells the future through the flight of birds.
Axiomancy: form of divination in which the diviner reads the quivering of the blade of an axe that has been thrust into a wooden table.
Birth stone: usually jewelry that symbolizes the month of birth which are usually given to the baby to give him good luck. Every month has a birthstone: January: garnet, February: amethyst, March: aquamarine or bloodstone,April: diamond, May: emerald, June: pearl or moonstone, July: ruby, August: peridot, sardonyx and sapphire, September: sapphire, October: opal, November: topaz, December: turquoise or laps lazuli.
Birth signs: the twelve astrological signs of the Zodiac that represent the divisions of the heavens such as Capricorns, Sagitarius etc. It is often used for future telling from birth dates.
Black magic: the kind of magic to draw evil powers to evoke killing, injuring or destructing an appointed victim.It is usually depicted by a witch or a warlock.
Black mass: A satanic mass performed to mock the Roman Catholic mass, where communion is desecrated with the use of animal sacrifices. The Lord’s prayer is recited backwards.
Blood pacts: pacts often closed by the use of one’s pact. Pacts are usually done with Satan in exchange for power, wealth etc.
Bone divination: Practice of reading the bones through cracks within the bone in order to give answer to questions previously written on the bones.
Card-laying: also known as Tarot cards. A form of fortunetelling with the use of tarot cards.
Catoptromancy: fortune telling through mirrors and crystals
Causiomancy: also known as pyromancy. Divination by means of fire and its shapes.
Ceromancy: fortune telling by means melting wax drops into water
Chain letters: even though this seems fairly innocent, nevertheless it can be categorized under the occult, for it usually carries a curse, when you do not forward the chain letter you will come under a curse of poverty, destruction. Chain letters are supposed to give the receiver good luck in life whenever he or she continues the chain.
Channeling: mediumistic characteristic to receive messages from spirits.
Charm: it is a form of magic or sorcery to either influence the natural, supernatural or a person, usually done through incantations.
Chiromancy:also known as Palmistry. Derived from the Greek ‘cheir’which means hand and from ‘manteia’which means divination. It is the practice of hand reading to evaluate a person’s character and life through the use of the lines of the hands, the forms of fingers etc.
Cheirognomy: is the study of mounts in chiromancy. Each mount in the palm of the hand correlates to a planetary influence. The thumb for example is called, Rhea, and is above the mount of Venus. The index finger, ruled by Jupiter, is above the mount of Jupiter.
Clairaudience: ability to hear things which others cannot.
Clairvoyance: perception of events, persons through detection of energy that lies in the future or in the past. It is fortunetelling.
Clairsentience: a person who is able to perceive energy such as auras and ghosts
Cleromancy, sortilege, casting lots or casting bones is a form of fortune telling in which an outcome is determined by random means, such as the rolling of a die.
Conjuration:derived from the Latin word conjuration’which means to swear together .Conjuration is an act to summon evil spirits with the intent to do evil to a person. Usually done when making use of charms.
Coven: derives from the English word ‘convene’which means to come together. A coven is a gathering of witches, traditionally thirteen in number for the purpose of performing witchcraft.
Cromniomancy: is the practice of divination through onions which are placed on a sacred altar to learn about friends and family far away and out of contact. The names of the beloved are inscribed on individual onions and left undisturbed until they began to sprout. The faster the sprouting, the better health and happiness was enjoyed by the friend named on the onion.
Crystalomancy: future telling through gazing into a crystal ball.
Crystals: widely used in the New Age movement and in the occult. These people believe that crystals have all kinds of healing, cleansing powers attached to them.
Conjuring tricks: Performance of illusions, also called magic, in which it is said that some magicians make use of the supernatural.
Cybermancy: although very controversial, it is the act of fortune telling by using computer driven divination systems. These systems may be based upon oracles such as Tarot, Runes or I Ching, originally created in non-electric media. These are usually fortune telling programs, but may include reference materials, such as programs which track the phase of the moon, which practitioners of ritual magic need for timing their spells.
Cyclomancy: is the practice of fortune telling where one consults a spinning object, like a wheel, or a bottle. The game of bottle spinning comes from this practice!
Death magic: usually done by voodoo priests or Roman Catholics. It is a mass celebrated to bring death to a victim through the use of enchantments.
Demon worship: is the worship of one of more demons. Also called Satanists.
Divination: practice of obtaining information through supernatural resources. Even though divination is a form of fortune telling, the practice of divination is usually done through a religious ceremony
Druids: priests of witchcraft. Also known as magicians and diviners.
Ectoplasm: a substance,usually cold which comes out of a medium, of which it is claimed that ectoplasm makes possible the materialization of ghosts.
Enchanting: derived, from latin “incantare”which means to enchant and is the practice of casting s a magical spell (curse) that is attached, on a relatively-permanent basis, to a specific person, object or location. Widely used by Satanists and Wiccans.
ESP: known as Extra sensory perception, and it is the ability to perceive a future event through other means than the five senses.
Extispacy: is the practice of using anomalies in animals' entrails (such as liver, intestines or lungs. The animal used for this practice is usually ritually or ceremonially slaughtered.
Favomancy: is a form of divination used by seers in Russia and is the practice that involves throwing beans on the ground and interpreting the patterns in which the beans fall.
Fetish: is a natural object believed to possess supernatural powers or inhabited by spirits.
Findhorn: New Age village in Scotland, teaching New Age principles, although some say that it is a Satanic organization.
Fire walking:practice of walking barefoot on fire or coals.The person will not get burned. Widely used by mediation gurus.
Fortune telling: practice of telling the future by supernatural means.It is often done through astrology, tarot etc.
Geomancy: derived from the Latin geo, which means "Earth," and mancy which prophecy"). Method of divination through the interpretations of markings on the ground or how handfuls of dirt land when you toss them.Also known as Feng Shui.
Gothic Music:occult and sinister music and lifestyle (Gothic) focusing very much on the dark side of life. Gothic bands are for example Bauhaus, and more famous, The Cure.
Goblins and Elves: A goblin is an evil or merely mischievous evil spirit, often described as a grotesquely disfigured. An elf was believed to be a minor immortal god of nature and fertility who had magical powers.
Gyromancy: is a practice of fortune of which one writes the alphabet on the ground in a largish circle around the diviner. From there, the diviner will spin on their feet until they stop and stumble upon a letter, which then is recorded.
Halloween: celebrated on October 31, Satanic high day, some even say it is Satan’s birthday.The Celts celebrated this day as the day of the dead. The spirits supposedly rose from the dead and, in order to attract them, food was left on the doors. To scare off the evil spirits, the Celts wore masks.
Heavy metal music:aggressive music, in which quite often satanic lyrics or satanic verses out of the Satanic bible are sung. Music is usually sung by extreme use of violence and anger. The use of alcohol is greatly encouraged.
Hepatoscopy: divination by using the internal organs of sacrificed animals, specifically the liver. Now widely in Homeopathy, though in a slightly different form.
Hex: a curse or a magical spell usually done to cause harm and misfortune to a victim.
Hexagram: also known as "sexagram" or a "magician's/sorcerer's star", is a six-pointed star, widely used in witchcraft to control the power of demons.
Homeopathy: alternative medicine of which some people say that it is enchanted by spoken formulaes to make it work. Usually the medicine consists of herbs and plants.
Hydromancy: derived from the Greek word 'hydro' which means water, and 'manteia', which means divination. It is the art of divination by means of observation of water, including the color, ebb and flow, or ripples produced by pebbles dropped in a pool.
Hypnosis:controversial method in which the person is put in a trance like state in order to heal memories or to substract hidden memories from the past. Nowadays, some magicians make use of hypnosis to entertain their audiences.
I Ching divination: form of divination in which one consults the book as an oracleand determines the hexagram reading the text associated with that hexagram. Each line of a hexagram determined with these methods is either stable ("young") or changing ("old"); thus, there are four possibilities for each line, corresponding to the cycle of change from yin to a yang and back again.
Idol: a person or a deity that becomes the center of worship.
Incantation: words spoken during a ritual, or the casting of a spell. Another word for incantation is mantra.
Incubus: demon that attaches itself to the sexuality of women.
Ingi: winti god (spirits of Indians)
Iridology: alternative medicine consisting of reading the eye in order to diagnose sickness.
Ikebana: also known as Japanese flower arranging. Originated by Zen Buddhist monks who arranged flowers not only to be looked at for their beauty but to worship the spirit gods, the gods of ikebana. The flowers and arrangements always point out to heaven in order to demonstrate faith.
Kabbalah: Hebrew word is Qabbala and it is a Jewish mystical tradition based on esoteric concerning God and the universe. Kabbalah stresses the reasons and understanding of the commandments, and the cause of events described in the Torah. Kabbalah includes the understanding of the spiritual spheres in creation, and the rules and ways by which God administers the existence of the universe. Kabbalah is described by some as a unique, universal and secret knowledge of God, the laws of nature and of the universe. They believe that all things in the world have different levels, the closer to God the more revealed the Godliness.
Lampadomancy: divination by using a single oil lamp or a torch flame, by reading the movement of the flames.
Lecanomancy: divination in which the diviner uses stones, oil, or meditation, coupled with a basin of water. The stones are then dropped in the basin and the sound of the dropping and the ripples formed are interpreted. When oil is used, the oil is poured into the water and the shapes it forms are interpreted.
Leprechaun: are considered to be partly real, physical creatures and partly spirits which inhabited Ireland before the Celts. It is more intelligent than the fairy and is able to speak and less malicious than the pixie, but nevertheless mischievous.
Levitation: is the process by which an object or people are raised into the air, against gravity, in a stable position, by a force.
Literomancy: derives from the Latin litero, which means "letter", and mancy which means "prophecy".It is a form of fortune telling based on interpreting letters, through single characters that are contained in the letter.
Lithomancy: divination by using crystals.
Lucky charms: also charm bracelets. An amulet which is worn to bring good luck. Sometimes the charm can be an object that has to be placed somewhere specific in the house.
Macumba: black witchcraft, usually practiced in Brazil with the use of sorcery, ritual dance and fetishes.
Mahjong: is a game of skill to determine one’s intelligence, calculation and luck. Depending on the variation which is played, the amount of luck may vary from 20 to 80 percent.
Magic: or sorcery is the use of dominating people or circumstances by means of occult or supernatural means. In Wicca the term is spelled magic.
Mandala: means circle in Sanskrit or holy or magical circle. They help focus the person on the circle (mandala) in order to get easier into a state of trance.
Mantra:an incantation. Widely used by yoga guru’s or TM practitioners in which one must repeat mantra verses in order to enter into contact with the spiritual world.
Mascots: a person, an animal or a thing that is become an object of good luck. Totems for example are mascots.
Medium: a person who is the channel for communication with the spirit world.
Mesmerism: originated from Franz Mesmer. Form of hypnotic therapy in which people will get in touch with their unheeded mental influences, malicious or ignorant feelings.
Mind Control:method initiated by Jose Silva in which a person’s thinking, behavior, emotions or decisions can, to a greater or lesser extent, be manipulated at will by outside source, usually spirits.
Mind reading: also known as Telepathy. Belief where people can read other people’s mind. It is a form of divination.
Myomancy: form of divination by using rats or mice. Their particular cries or some marked devastation committed by them was taken for a prognostication of evil.
Moonmancy: practice of divination by using the moon. Widely practiced in South America, especially when full moon.
Motorskopua: divination by using a pendulum(mechanic) for the diagnosis of illnesses and other maladies.
Mysticism: pursuit of achieving communion with or conscious awareness of the divine, or the spiritual world, or God through direct, personal experience (intuition or insight) by emptying one’s mind and intuition in order to gain this knowledge.
Necromancy: is the alleged divination through communication with the spirits of the dead in some cases, the use of merely their corpses .Widely used by spiritists.
Neo pagan: most commonly known as a wiccan nowadays. Worship is associated with the worship of nature and the lunar goddess, the occult and the ancient Greek or Egyptian religions.
New Age: broad movement that originated in the Twentieth century (in the early seventies) characterized by an individual eclectic approach to their spirituality. It has some attributes of a new, emerging religion but is currently a loose network of spiritual seekers, teachers, healers and other participants. Rather than follow the lead of an organized religion, "New Agers" typically construct their own religiosity or spirituality from material taken as needed from the mystical traditions of all the world religions as well as shamanism, neo paganism and occultism.
Nggàm: divination that originated among the Mambila people of Cameroon and Niger, in which the actions of spiders or crabs are interpreted by the diviner.
Numerology: form of divination wherein the diviner studies the purported mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and the character or action of physical objects and living things. Numbers have values and each letter of the alphabet has a number and a value. It is the divination of the interpretation of these in relation to a person and his life.
Oculomancy: is a form of scrying where the diviner gazes into the questioners' eyes and reads the reflections.
Occultism: derives from the Latin ‘occultus’ which means “hidden”. It is the knowledge of the secret or the hidden things. Knowledge usually attained by supernatural means. The powers of darkness are in great opposition to the powers of God.
Occult symbols: symbols associated with the occult and widely used in this area.
Oinomancy: divination by using wine. This is done by pouring out wine as a libation and interpreting the patterns that it forms. Also done by interpreting the sediment in the bottom of a glass of wine after drinking, and interpreting patterns after spilling onto cloth or paper.
Omen: divination by the use of signs to foretell the future.
Omphalomancy: divination using the belly button to determine the number of children one was to have.
Oneiromancy: divination by the interpretation of dreams.
Ouija board: a so called talking board, used in seances to communicate with spirits.
Palmistry: divination by reading the lines of one’s palm of the hands.
Palo Mayombe: Afro-American religion based on the African concept of divine spirit (the Orishas) of the Yoruba, the Inkices of Bantu(ethnic groups in Africa) traditions, and the Voduns(voodoo) of Dahomey often combined with European concepts such as Catholic saints, Karedecist spirits, and sometimes Native American deities.
Parakinesis: using the power of the mind to control objects.
Pendulum: object which has a cord attached to its end and is used by swinging it to divine things in the future.
Phallus: :symbol of fertility in the form of a phallus or penis.
Pentagram: it is a five-pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. Symbol of witchcraft, associated with satanism also. Represents the four elements of the earth, air, fire and water, the fifth usually controls these elements.
Phrenology: the interpretation to determine character, personality traits, and criminality on the basis of the shape of the head.
Planchette: a triangular or heart-shaped board supported by castors which, when lightly touched and moved by the fingers, is claimed to spell out supernatural messages.
Psychic birth:experience of rebirthing, and the birth of a person’s psychic abilities.
Psychic healing:healing method by the use of spirits (who give their power onto the healer)to bring about healing.
Psychometry: is a psychic ability in which the user is able to relate details about the past condition of an object or area, usually by being in close contact with it.
Pyromancy:divination by the study of the fire and its shapes.
Pyramidology:the practice of placing photographs under a pyramid or placing a pyramid under the bed for example in order to bring spiritual balance to the person.
Rhabdomancy: divination by the use of a hazel rod to trace minerals and metals hidden in the ground.
Reflexology: ancient Chinese practice in which it is believed that the feet contain all the touching points for the human organs.by massaging the feet and touching the correspondent places, the body and its organs are healed.
Runecasting: Norwegian divination method by the use of Norse rune symbols to predict fortune. The stones consist of a collection of twenty-four stones, each carved with a Norse letter. Stones are drawn from the bag, and laid out in a spread and read.
Reiki healing: it is a Japanese form of healing in which it is believed that the universal spiritual energy can be affected by martial arts and meditation. The healing consists in bringing back the right energy within the body.
Reincarnation:belief of which is believed that the human Soul will reincarnate until that person reaches perfection. Hindu, Sikhism and African belief system.
Rolfing: also known as Structural Integration, is a use of massage therapy that consists of organizing soft tissue relationships, with the objectives of realigning the body structurally and harmonizing its fundamental movement patterns, thus providing a sense of vitality and well-being.
Santeria:form of witchcraft originated from the Yoruba people which incorporates some elements of Roman Catholic worship.Orisha is worshipped through animal sacrifices and through sung invocations.This belief originated in Cuba during the slave period.
Santero: a santerian priest, who makes religious images.
Satanism: worship of Satan and participation in satanic rituals to worship him.
Sciamancy: derives from the Greek skia which means ‘ghost’, and manteia, which means ‘fortune telling’and is a form of divination involving the observation of or even communication with ghosts.
Séance: is an attempt to communicate with spirits, usually of the dead.. The séance, or sitting, is led by a medium who will usually go into a trance in order to communicate with the dead.
Sorcery: see magic.
Soul Travel: see astral projection.
Spell: an incantation accompanied by magical power used to destroy or curse a person, church or society.
Spiritism: Communication with the dead or spirit world by calling demons, usually done through a medium.
Spirit guide: a spirit that provides the medium with information form the other side.
Spodomancy: divination by means of study of the ashes.
Stichomancy or Bibliomancy: form of divination that seeks to know the future by randomly selecting a passage from a book or from a sacred text. The most common procedure involves placing the book on its spine, and with eyes closed, allowing the book to fall open to a random page. Then, with the eyes still closed, place a finger on the open page and read the passage indicated.
Stigmata: wounds of Jesus while crucified, that appear supernaturally on people.
Superstition: irrational belief or practice, that one needs to perform a certain handling to bring good luck.
Table tipping: divination by means of movement of the table by spirits.
Talisman: an object or amulet which has magical powers attached to it to bring a person good luck or prosperity.
Tarot: divination by use of tarot cards.
Tasseography:is divination or fortune telling method that interprets patterns in tea leaves. Also used as coffee reading.
Telepathy: ability of humans and other creatures to communicate from one mind to another, without the use spoken language.
Therapeutic touch: (TT). Introduced by Dolores Krieger in the 70’s in which healing occurs without a touch. The practitioner simply moves the hand on top of the body, without touching it and the energy emanating out of the hand heals the part afflicted.
Thunder stones: a flattened usually oval stone with magical powers attached to it.
Tiromancy is a form of divination that seeks to know the future by examining how curds form during the making of the cheese.
Transcendental Mediation: (TM) a form of meditation that comprises in the silent mental repetition of a mantra, allowing the repetition to spontaneously become quieter and quieter, until it disappears and one is left conscious, but without thoughts.
Trance: is an altered state of consciousness.
Translocation: when a person moves from one place to the other by supernatural means.
Transmigration: when a soul after death transfers into another body.
Umbanda: polytheist syncretic religion based on the worship of African Orishas , brought to Brazil by the African slaves during the colonial period. Each Orisha is associated with a Catholic saint .Involves bloody sacrifices. It is a religion that blends Catholicism, Kardecist Spiritualism and Afro-Brazilian traditions.
Voodoo: religious witchcraft that involves rituals, sacrifices, and divination. Their gods are worshipped and it is widely used to bring harm or death to a victim.
Voodoo bottles: bottles that are painted in the color of a certain spirit. It is the act of honor and worship to a certain voodoo spirit.
Wicca: form of witchcraft, neopaganistic religion. Wicca makes use of Celtic, Greek, Roman, German and Egyptian mythological names.
Winti: is a Afro-Surinam religion in which the belief of gods and ghosts lies central. It is the belief that each person carries a winti (ghost) inside of him or her from childbirth on. Each winti has a special assignment in a person’s life. One winti takes care of the financial aspect, the other of the health and so forth.
White magic: There is no form of white magic, for all sorts of magic is black. It is an occult practice. This form of magic is thought to bring good to people.
Witchcraft: the use of supernatural powers for the purpose of black magic.
Yoga: a form of mediation. It also is a spiritual exercise to help you control the physical, spiritual world through the help of spirit guides.
Zodiac: twelve fold signs in the sky representing the twelve astrological signs. It is the reading of these signs and their constellations at important events in one’s life.
