As Christians we are all in a state of war against the forces of evil. The minute you give your heart to Christ, you will find yourself involved in a most vicious war with a mighty enemy called Satan. I say mighty, because Satan is not only very dangerous, he is also a foe not to mess around with. Do not take him lightly. Nevertheless, we as Christians are involved in a battle that will last all of our lives. Satan hates us and he wants to destroy us. In order to survive his attacks we have to have mighty weapons. These weapons will keep us safe, will defend us. Now, in order to understand what kind of weapons you must use, you must understand first what kind of warfare you are in.
The Bible tells us this about this warfare:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12)
It must become very clear to us that we wrestle not against each other but against unseen forces which are very evil. These forces are powerful. A principality for example is a strong evil ruler who can rule whole areas or even whole countries. These areas or countries which fall prey unto their rule, are wickedly influenced by such a principality. That is why you can see different kinds of wickedness prevail in one country while the other has other kind of wickedness prevailing there. We may not see these principalities, these wicked rulers, but they are nevertheless there, influencing not only our area in which we live but us as well. Satan’s kingdom is well organized. See it as an army. He sends his army out continually to engage in war, war against you.
This enemy, Satan is our accuser. He accuses us day and night before the Father (Rev. 12:10). Furthermore he uses lies to entangle us, to ensnare us. John 8:44 told us Satan is the father of lies. He will therefore try to win the battle with lies. His armor are lies, but your armor you should know, is far stronger and more powerful than his, for your armour is the Word of truth, which is the Word of God!
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”(Eph 6:14-18)
In order to win this battle you must put on the whole armour of God (Eph 6:11). You must know the Bible, you must! Only in this way Satan can not have any advantage of you. It is the best armour one can ask for. God has told us that His Word is sharper than any twoedged sword (Heb.4:12). In order to use the Word of God you must have faith in the Word of God. Faith in God and in His Word are mighty weapons (Eph. 6:16) indeed. Jesus overcame Satan with the Word of God (Mt 4:4; Mt 4:7). We can therefore absolutely rely on this weapon to win the battle for us.
Therefore let us “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8)
“Submit yourselves therefore to God (read and get yourself acquainted with His Word, emphasis mine). Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”(Jas.4:7)
