Acceptance can make you either feel good about yourself, but it can also make you feel unwanted, rejected, unloved and deeply hurt. These feelings of course happen when you are not accepted. I think it is aloud to say that we all want to be accepted by others. This is a primary emotion that lies very deep within each of us. That is why when we are not accepted we are left hurting so badly. People who feel unaccepted often blame themselves for it, even though the rejection might have nothing to do with themselves but all to do with the ‘rejecter’. Why is it then that we want so eagerly be accepted by others?
You see, acceptance of others makes you feel wanted, needed and loved. That is the reason that we all strive to be accepted by others. Being accepted by others makes you really feel good. However, many of us will be accepted by some and turned down by others. Jesus himself was accepted by some and rejected by others.
“Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God.” (Jn 1:12)
Being rejected by some and accepted by others is only too normal friends. Not everybody will sympathize with your ideas or your personality. This should, however, not make you feel unworthy!
You need to know that you are very much accepted in the beloved (Eph. 1:6). That means that God has accepted you (Rom 8:10). There is really no need to strive for the acceptance of others, for God has already accepted you. This should be the primary focus in your life. You are a part of God’s kingdom because you have accepted His beloved Son Jesus Christ. Therefore you are loved and accepted, remember that. If someone rejects you just move on. Do not strive to get accepted by that person. Many people strive needlessly in their lives to be accepted by someone who will not accept them. This is just not worth your time nor your effort. Do not be bothered nor hurt if someone does not accept you. Instead, feel accepted because God has accepted you. Look up to the people who have accepted you and be thankful for them. I really think that I have to say this over and over again because in my experience, many people do not even consider (usually unwillingly) the good people they have in their lives. This is not because they are ungrateful, but this can be due to inner conflict with themselves.
People who are insecure about themselves, often strive to be accepted by others. In order to be accepted they are like dough; everybody can mold them according to their own wishes. Dear friends, if this is the case you’d better run from such people. People who are worthy of you will accept you just as you are. There is really no need to change or mould yourself to their wishes. People who request such a thing of you will never be satisfied with your efforts. They will always request more and more of you and that will only worsen your feelings. You must look at the people in your life that accept you for whom you are. Praise God for them and thank Him.
Remember this, not even Jesus was accepted by everyone and He was the Son of God. If He was rejected by some, why do you have to be accepted by everyone?
If you need further encouragement I dare you to read up I and II book of Samuel. These books record the lives of the prophet Samuel and King David. Two people who were not always accepted by others. In fact King David was often times rejected. This rejection however, did not make him ineffectual. He prayed to God, for He knew that only God would accept Him no matter what. He knew that only God could help him out of this rejection. Sure enough, he felt the same pain you or I feel when we are rejected, but He dealt differently. Instead of blaming it on himself, He sought God and asked Him to heal him from any emotional wounds that might and in fact did afflict him during times in his life. You ought to do the same, we all should. If you feel unaccepted ask God to heal you from this pain. He is faithful and He will do it. Remember this: “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”(1 Cor1:9).
On the other hand if you are not accepted by anyone and in turn you are more rejected than accepted, the root problem might be demonic in origin. My advice to you is whenever you are going to meet up with people, even in the working place, ask God to bind those demons of rejection and unacceptance that are lingering in the people around you. Ask Him to make the people see you as He sees you. Whenever you meet someone bind those demons afflicting those people. You see, most of the times it is not the people who are not accepting you, but the demons that are lingering in those people are the ones that are cause of your unacceptance. They work in those people and manipulate them to hinder them from accepting you. You will find that this happens when you meet people who are not saved the most. Those people are the ones that are an easy target for the demons, because they have the legal right to stay right there where they are. However, they fear you, because they know you have Jesus, and they know that by one command in the name of Jesus their position is in jeopardy. That is why they work so hard to get at you through other people. So do not be discouraged and feel accepted.
